Filmmakers Now Invited To Submit In All Genres
LOS ANGELES – January 11, 2016 – Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles, a nonprofit arts organization, announced today that its 8th annual edition will be held September 21-28, 2016. The announcement also marks the festival’s official Call For Entries for filmmakers both locally and around the world.
The 8th annual Downtown Film Fest L.A. expands from 5 to 8 days and more than doubles the number of film screenings, compared to last year’s festival. It also marks the festival’s move both on the calendar – from summer to early fall – and to a new venue – Regal Cinemas L.A. Live 14.
“Our move to the state-of-the-art facilities at Regal Cinemas L.A. Live provides the opportunity for us to substantially expand our programming, affording filmmakers and audiences alike the highest professional presentation and entertainment experience,” said festival director Greg Ptacek. “We couldn’t be more proud and excited to now be the only major film festival located in DTLA.”
Downtown Film Festival L.A. was established in 2008 by professionals in the film industry to provide a platform for independent filmmakers in the historic center of the Film Capital of the World. Since its inception, the festival has premiere more than 700 films.
The festival screens all genres of film – narrative, documentary, animation, experimental and short films. Last year film submissions were received from more than a dozen countries around the world. This year’s festival programming will include a number of special series on urban sustainability, income inequality and foreign cinema. As with past festivals, a local DTLA filmmakers showcase will be included as an integral part of the programming.
“We’ve always strived to reflect in our programming choices the unique convergence of diverse cultures in downtown LA. We also recognize that DTLA is one of most creative communities in the world, and strive to choose films that break boundaries in terms of theme, content and technique,” says DFFLA programming director Carolyn Schroeder.
