DTLA Film Festival Announces Its First-Ever Screenplay Contest
Entries now being accepted in all genres
Grand prize winner to have a live, public table read in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES – Feb. 5, 2019 – DTLA Film Festival has announced the launch of its first screenplay contest, coinciding with its next festival, Oct. 23-27 at Regal L.A. LIVE and venues throughout burgeoning downtown Los Angeles. Feature-length screenplays and scripts for TV pilots and short films are now being accepted and can be submitted online either through Film Freeway or Withoutbox.
Celebrating its 11th year, the nonprofit DTLA Film Festival is the largest film event in downtown Los Angeles, the historic center and new creative nexus of the Creative Capital of the World. The festival embraces its mission of showcasing films by and about people underrepresented by Hollywood, notably women, people of color and members of the LGBTQ community.
“Our first screenplay contest will reflect the festival’s decade-long commitment to gender and ethnic diversity. We look forward to receiving scripts that give voice to stories that might not otherwise be heard,” said Karolyn Sosa, the festival’s director of programming.
Awards will be presented in various genres. The grand-prize winning screenplay will have a table read staged before a live audience during the festival.
“Every screenwriter wants to be seen and heard in Los Angeles, so we’re thrilled to provide this opportunity for established and emerging writers worldwide,” said contest curator Leann Barna.
